- Volunteers are vital in our hospital
When you think of all the departments and teams in any hospital, volunteers may not be one you think of initially. But for many years, these wonderful volunteers have been a vital part of St Vincent’s Private Hospital Toowoomba.
There are several volunteer roles at the hospital, and we are always on the lookout for more people to join our friendly team. Volunteers assist with greeting patients at entrances and assisting with directions, administrative tasks, taking the library trolley and flower trolley around wards, recycling, preparing meals in the kitchen, pastoral care and the hospital archives.
In addition to these roles, the hospital also supports another group of volunteers, the long-standing St Vincent’s Cancer Care Committee. This special group fundraise throughout the year with various events including luncheons and bake stalls. Their donations have funded the palliative care visitor’s room, blanket warmers, recliner chairs and gift packs for patients.
“I feel very lucky to work with dedicated and knowledgeable volunteers, some who have been with our hospital for over 20 years. The volunteers enhance patient experience at our hospital. They are wonderful people who are passionate about caring for patients and helping the hospital.”
Maternity and Paediatric wards volunteer, Jan, has been volunteering at St Vincent’s Toowoomba for nearly ten years.
“St Vincent’s is a lovely place to volunteer at. My favourite part is meeting people and assisting the staff. I just love it.”
Volunteering is open to people of all ages and background who want to show that famous Darling Downs community spirit. Whether you are in high school or university, or someone who has spare time on their hands, we would love to have you as part of our team.
