Biography

Associate Professor Mark Danta is a consulting gastroenterologist and hepatologist with a particular interest in coeliac disease, inflammatory bowel diseases — including Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis and irritable bowel disease — cirrhosis, viral hepatitis and co-infection with HIV, and other chronic liver diseases.

A/Prof Danta offers services that include colonoscopy, endoscopy and non-invasive liver biopsy. His active involvement with research in the area of gut health and the microbiome, cirrhosis and its complications, and liver cancer, afford his patients the latest treatment options available.

A/Prof Danta graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine from the University of Newcastle in 1992. He also holds a Diploma of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (University of London 1996), Master of Public Health (University of Sydney 2002), and a Doctorate of Medicine (University of London, 2006), and has been a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians since 2002.

As part of his work at St Vincent’s, Mark oversees undergraduate, Master’s and PhD students, and holds an appointment as Associate Professor with the University of New South Wales.
