Biography

Dr Jananie Balendran is an Obstetrician, Gynaecologist, and Laparoscopic Surgeon. Her practice goals are to provide warm and personalised care to women who are navigating challenges in their health.

Dr Jananie Balendran completed her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at the University of New South Wales (UNSW). Following her medical degree, she undertook specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology through the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG).

Her core training spanned some of Australia’s leading hospitals, including Royal Prince Alfred, Royal Darwin, St George Hospital, and Canterbury Hospital. She further refined her expertise by completing advanced training in open and minimally invasive (laparoscopic + hysteroscopic) surgery within the Westmead Hospital Network.

Dr. Jananie is dedicated to enhancing her impact on Global Health. She holds a Master’s degree in International Public Health and a Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene from Peru. Dr Jananie has also worked in the field in remote communities in Australia and in over 10 countries internationally. She is currently a Board Director for Medecins Sans Frontieres (Doctors without Borders) Australia and serves on the RANZCOG Global Health Committee.

Dr Jananie Balendran grew up in the Riverina district (Deniliquin, Finley and Wagga Wagga) and has experienced firsthand the challenges of access to health care. As a result, she is committed to giving back to the Riverina community. When she’s not at work, Dr Jananie loves spending time with her family. Her husband works in aged care, on the other end of life’s spectrum. Her two little girls keep her grounded and committed to improving women’s right to health globally, leaving an enduring impact for future generations.

Better and fairer care. Always.

In a rapidly transforming world, St Vincent's has created a refreshed vision and strategy to help shape Australia's health and aged care future.
