Biography
Professor Keith Burgess is a widely admired respiratory and sleep physician who is globally recognised for his research in understanding sleep-related issues.
Professor Keith Burgess completed his medical training at the University of Sydney with further specialist training undertaken in respiratory medicine at Concord and St Vincent’s Hospitals. He completed a further Master of Science in physiology at Canada’s University of Calgary, before he was appointed to the faculty as an Assistant Professor of Medicine (pulmonary and critical care medicine).Back in Australia, Keith and a wider team developed and ran the intensive care and cardiac rehabilitation service at Manly Hospital which operated for 10 years. In 2002, Keith was awarded a PhD in medicine, and has subsequently enjoyed international recognition for his research into sleep and the control of breathing at high altitude. He started the first sleep laboratory on the Northern Beaches in 1993, where it now operates as a fully accredited sleep clinic.
