Advanced Life Support Course Level 1

Advanced Life Support course level 1 (ALS1) is a one day course accredited by the Australian Resuscitation Council that equips medical personnel with the skills and confidence to approach the unwell patient. The course is made up of both lectures and activity stations and is run in small groups of 6 candidates. The course is run every month at the Mater Hospital, North Sydney. Register Now

Level 1 Course Details

The areas covered are:

  • causes and prevention of cardiac arrest
  • diagnosing and managing the obstructed airway
  • assessing the unwell patient using the A to E approach
  • safe and prompt defibrillator use
  • how to be an effective team member in a cardiac arrest

The 8 hour course is recognised by:

  • RACGP requirements for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Advanced Life Support (GPs are eligible to apply for Category 1, self direct CPD)

  • RACP (24 credits) and ANZCA (Emergency Response activity)

  • Fellows of the RANZCOG can claim 8 hours of educational activity toward their CPD.

Advanced Life Support Level 2 Details

The two day Advanced Life Support level 2 (ALS2) course covers all aspects of the ALS1 course plus:

  • Pacing and cardioversion workshops
  • Arrest in special circumstances
  • Blood gas analysis
  • How to be an effective team leader in a cardiac arrest

The two day course is run 5 times a year at the Mater Hospital, North Sydney.
