What is considered a Breast Condition requiring urgent attention
- Breast Abscess not responding to antibiotics requiring drainage
- Severe Mastitis not responding to antibiotics after with increasing redness, pain, fevers, and chills
- Infected seromas following breast surgery requiring drainage
- Seromas causing severe pain and discomfort requiring drainage for symptom relief
- Breast symptoms suspicious for malignancy are urgent if the clinician is requiring a biopsy to confirm histological status to commence treatment or if the patient is booked for surgery and additional information is required that may change the course of treatment
All other breast imaging requiring diagnostic work up is not classed as urgent and although it can be a very anxious time for patients waiting to have these tests performed, they can safely be performed as outpatients and should not affect discharge from hospital if otherwise well.
Please note the Breast Health Centre will be closed from 22 December through to 5 January. Any urgent requests can be triaged by the main LUMUS department.
