The Mater Hospital is a 230 bed facility with 15 operating theatres; 2 cardiac catheter laboratories; an endoscopy unit; 12-chair 1-bed day oncology unit; 12 bed ICU; a large maternity unit with a dedicated caesarean section operating theatre, a special care nursery; as well as a centre for wellbeing that offers physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing services to cancer patients. Our core specialities include obstetrics; orthopaedics; heart, lung and vascular medicine and surgery; cancer care and surgery; gynaecology, urology and endocrine surgeries; as well as neurosurgery.
The Mater Hospital is the only Australian Hospital to be accepted as a member of the International Society of Orthopaedic Centres. Orthopaedic Surgery is one of the major clinical programs at the Mater with over 8,700 orthopaedic procedures performed over the past year (including over 2,200 joint replacement procedures). Committed to clinical research, education and training, the Mater functions as an academic centre with a full time Orthopaedic Registrar, Orthopaedic Fellows in advanced training and an Orthopaedic Intern. The Mater also conducts education for medical students in Orthopaedics and General Surgery.

We are an exclusively private, 310 bed (all single rooms with ensuite), acute care facility known for our highly specialised services and outstanding patient care.
