- Toowoomba introduces a room service-style menu
St Vincent’s Private Hospital Toowoomba patients may well think they’re in a luxury hotel with a room service-style menu on offer. Support Services Manager Leanne Kiepe said the menu had been revamped to offer a greater variety of menu options.
“We introduced the room service-style menu three years ago and it’s been an absolute winner with patients,” Leanne said.
“Like in a hotel, patients call and order from more than 100 items on the menu and it’s then freshly prepared and delivered within 45 minutes to the patient’s room.
“Food Services scored a patient satisfaction score of 4.52 out of a possible score of 5 and early feedback on the new menu has also been really positive.”
International flavours in curries, stir fries, pizza and pasta are included as options along with more traditional fare like roasts, casseroles, and grilled steak, chicken, and barramundi with a range of sides, plus salads, sandwiches, wraps, snacks, and desserts.
Support Services Coordinator Simon Whelan said the Food Services unit was a well-oiled machine with St Vincent’s the only hospital offering a room service model across Toowoomba and the Darling Downs.
“Food Services operates under a Food Safety Program to ensure all meals prepared, produced and delivered to our patients are provided in a safe environment meeting the Food Standards Code under Food Standards Australia & New Zealand,” Simon said.
“Our team comprises 41 staff including nine qualified chefs who produce the meals for patients each day.
“To support the smooth production and running of Food Services we have a dedicated team of food service assistants who are managed by specially trained staff to ensure the requirements of patients who need specialised diets are catered for.
“We have a strong working relationship with our allied health team of dietitians, speech pathologists and the nursing staff to ensure patient needs and requirements are met.
“We also source as much local produce as possible to support Darling Downs businesses and maintain freshness.”
