Mr Kapil Sethi discusses BPH and HoLEP

St Vincent's Private Hospital, East Melbourne

Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia or 'BPH' is a condition in which the prostate gland slowly enlarges, blocking the flow of urine.

Although not cancerous, it may affect the quality of life and create sleep disturbances for sufferers. Common signs to look out for include increased frequency or urgency to urinate - including having to get up during the night - a weaker stream and feeling that you are not emptying completely when going to urinate.

Although some men are able to manage this condition through the use of medication under the advice and consultation of their Urologist, for others, HoLEP or 'Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate' may prove to be the best solution. This involves removing the obstructive tissue in the prostate by way of minimally invasive keyhole surgery with the use of a laser.

In this short video Mr Kapil Sethi, Urologist at St Vincent's Private Hospital East Melbourne discusses BPH and HoLEP in more detail including the benefits offered, ideal candidate for surgery and recent investment into cutting-edge equipment for the procedure which the hospital has undertaken.
