A/Prof Sonny Palmer is a Melbourne-based cardiologist with extensive expertise in coronary and structural heart interventions as well as cardiovascular risk factor assessment and management of coronary artery disease. He is committed to delivering recommendations that will achieve the most optimal outcome.A/Prof Palmer has surgical expertise in balloon aortic valvuloplasty, transcatheter aortic valve implantation, patent foramen ovale surgery and atrial septal defect closure.
Sonny graduated from the University of Melbourne and completed his clinical training in cardiology at St Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne. He followed this by completing subspecialty training in coronary and structural heart interventions at St Vincent’s Hospital and in the UK at James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough. He is a clinical associate professor at the University of Melbourne and was awarded his doctorate at the University of Melbourne in 2016.
Sonny is actively involved in clinical research and has over 55 manuscripts published in peer-reviewed journals. He has also been involved in several pioneering interventional trials, is actively involved in clinical research and is a supervisor of higher research degree candidates, FRACP physician trainees, junior doctors and medical students. Sonny is the clinical lead of the Structural Heart Program at St Vincent’s Public and Private Hospitals.
