Biography

Dr Chris Kiely is a gastroenterologist and an expert in digestive health. Extensively qualified, he has a special interest in the causes and treatment of inflammatory bowel disease.

Dr Chris Kiely is a consultant physician who specialises in providing personalised, evidence-based clinical care for people with gastrointestinal issues, such as inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis), coeliac disease, liver diseases, peptic ulcer disease, bowel cancer screening, polyp detection and removal and irritable bowel syndrome. He is a VMO and consultant at North Shore Private Hospital and the Mater Hospital.

Chris studied medicine at Sydney University, and subsequently undertook specialist training in gastroenterology at Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney. Here he attained his fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2014. During this time he developed a particular interest in inflammatory bowel diseases which he later pursued at Canberra Hospital and in the UK, where he was the senior clinical fellow in this field at Addenbrooke’s Hospital (Cambridge).

He is currently completing an IBD-focused PhD through ANU and has numerous peer-reviewed related publications. Committed to education and research, Chris has lectured and tutored medical students in multiple universities around the world including Cambridge and ANU. He is a clinical tutor in the medical doctor programme at Sydney University.

Chris has many professional memberships including Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, the Gastroenterology Society of Australia and Australia and New Zealand Gastrointestinal Training Association. He has also been accredited for colonoscopy and gastroscopy by the conjoint committee for the recognition of training in gastrointestinal endoscopy.
