Biography

Dr David Drynan is an Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in Knee, Hip, Shoulder at Mater Hospital, North Sydney.

Dr Drynan is an adult and paediatric upper extremity and knee surgeon based in Sydney’s North and West. His appointments are at the Mater Hospital, Northshore Private Hospital, Westmead Private Hospital and the Children’s Hospital Westmead. 

Dr Drynan was raised on a cattle and dairy property in South-East Queensland. He holds Bachelor degrees from the University of Queensland in Mechanical Engineering (2005) and Medicine and Surgery (2009). Dr Drynan completed his orthopaedic training in both Queensland and Sydney and was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons and Fellow of the Australian Orthopaedic Association in 2019. 

Dr Drynan completed subspecialty fellowships in hand surgery (Royal North Shore Hospital), upper extremity (Toronto Western Hospital, Canada) and sports knee and arthroplasty (Sydney). He was awarded the Teachers’ Chair Award for greatest contribution to teaching by a Fellow and has contributed to international peer-reviewed journals, meetings and book chapters in these fields. 

Dr Drynan holds an appointment as an upper extremity and knee subspecialist at the Children’s Hospital Westmead. He is invested in teaching medical students, trainees and fellow health professionals on orthopaedic conditions. Dr Drynan contributes to the Australian Orthopaedic Associations’ trainee education, research and trial examinations. 

Dr Drynan has a special interest in shoulder instability and arthritis in the young, as well as common and complex upper extremity and knee conditions. He believes in excellence in individual patient care and takes a personalised approach to orthopaedics.
