Biography

Dr Guillermo Hurtado, is an ENT, Head and Neck Surgeon with Fellowship training in Paediatric ENT and Otology.

In 2009, Guillermo completed fellowship training in Paediatric ENT at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne. He later completed a second fellowship in Otology and General ENT at Monash Health in Melbourne in 2011.

As a result of his Fellowship training, Guillermo has special interest in ear related disorders, including hearing loss management, major ear surgery and hearing implants. He also has expertise in general adult and paediatric ENT conditions, including upper airway surgery for snoring and minimally invasive nasal and paranasal sinus surgery.

Guillermo holds Visiting Medical Officer Consultant appointment at Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital since 2019, where he attends the Cochlear Implant Clinic and the Otology Clinic. He worked for 15 years at Monash Health, performing major ear surgery and attending the Complex Otology Clinic, up until 2024.

Guillermo holds a position as Honorary Adjunct Lecturer in the Department of Surgery Monash Health, School of Clinical Sciences, Faculty of Medicine Nursing and Health Services since 2019. As part of previous research activity, Guillermo and his colleagues received the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) RC Bennett Award for the best clinical research paper at the 2015 Victorian-Tasmanian Annual Surgical Meeting. 

Guillermo’s previous experience includes an Observership rotation and participation in the Basic Science Course at Bobby R. Alford Department of Otorhinolaryngology and Communicative Sciences at Baylor College of Medicine, Texas in 2004. 

Guillermo completed his Bachelor Degree in Medicine and Surgery at University of Costa Rica in 2000. In 2006, he completed Surgical Training in Otorhinolaryngology (ORL), receiving Graduation with Honours from the University of Costa Rica.
