Biography

Dr Hugh Porter is an obstetrician and gynaecologist who provides premium care to women of Sydney’s North Shore and Northern Beaches. Dr Porter is a highly skilled doctor whose style is approachable, supportive and relaxed. Dr Porter is passionate about his vocation and works hard to ensure his patients achieve their pregnancy goals.

At medical school Dr Porter was awarded “Magna Cum Laude”,  the “Communication and Clinical Skills Prize” and “the Vice Chancellor’s Academic Excellence Award”. He trained as a specialist obstetrician/gynaecologist at Royal North Shore and Westmead Hospitals. He undertook a gynaecology fellowship at St Vincent’s and the Northern Beaches Hospitals.
 
Dr Porter teaches medical students from Notre Dame and Macquarie universities and holds academic positions at both universities. In 2022 Dr Porter was awarded the Northern Beaches Hospital Obstetrics and Gynaecology “Excellence in teaching” award.
 
Dr Porter is a highly skilled obstetrician with a passion for both low and high risk pregnancies. Dr Porter is happy to provide: natural birth, waterbirth, Calmbirth®,  VBAC (vaginal birth after caesarean section), Elective caesarean section, Maternal assisted caesarean section, Induction of labour and Twin birth (vaginal or caesarean). He is also a competent laparoscopic surgeon and colposcopist.
 
Personal interests: Dr Porter has a keen interest in outdoor activities such as cycling, running, canyoning, climbing, scuba diving and back-country skiing. Dr Porter is a proud father to two beautiful children. His wife Isobel works as a medical oncologist.
