Biography

Dr Jacob Wembri is a consultant in general medicine, and a world-class expert in the treatment of infectious diseases.

Jacob was born and raised in remote Papua New Guinea, and graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Papua New Guinea in 1991. After carrying out his postgraduate training in Scotland, he undertook his specialist internal medicine and infectious disease training at the University Hospital in Newcastle upon Tyne.

Jacob has gone on to complete further postgraduate studies and holds a Masters of Science infection and health in the Tropics from the University of London, and a diploma in tropical medicine and hygiene from the Royal College of Physicians of London. He has also co-authored a number of peer-reviewed articles on the topic of infectious diseases.

Jacob held a number of positions in both acute medicine and infectious diseases in the UK, before finding a home at St Vincent’s Hospital in Toowoomba in 2012.
