Biography

Dr John Chetwood is a highly experienced consultant gastroenterologist committed to clinical excellence and guiding patients through complex medical journeys with compassion and excellence.

John completed his gastroenterology training at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, a leading quaternary referral centre, gaining expertise in liver transplant care, acute liver failure, intestinal failure, advanced endoscopy, and complex inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) management.

Further specialising in IBD, Dr Chetwood undertook postgraduate fellowships at Concord Hospital and St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne. He is completing a PhD focused on optimising treatments and novel approaches for IBD, supported by a prestigious NHMRC scholarship. He is a regular speaker at national and international conferences, and widely published.

Dr Chetwood graduated with distinction from Imperial College London, and also took attained distinctions in BSc and DTM&H postgraduate study. John has gained diverse international experience in the UK, New Zealand, and Australia, alongside clinical and research work in Malawi, South Africa, Nigeria, and India.
