Biography

Dr John Males is an ophthalmologist at the forefront of his field and has had a pivotal role introducing numerous surgical techniques to Australia.

Dr Males is a consultant ophthalmologist and leader in laser vision correction. With over 10 years’ experience in this area, he now performs the latest form of laser vision correction, known as SMILE® or ‘keyhole’ LASIK. He has additional expertise in cataract surgery, corneal transplantation, keratoconus treatments including collagen cross linking, corneal rings, phakic intraocular lenses, and anterior segment reconstruction.

After concluding his medical training at the University of Sydney, John completed ophthalmic training at the Sydney Eye Hospital and the Bristol Eye Hospital, UK. John is a clinical senior lecturer at the University of Sydney (USyd) and Macquarie University, and is a co-ordinator for the Masters of Refractive Surgery at USyd. He ia currently head of both the Corneal Unit at Sydney Eye Hospital and the Department of Ophthalmology at St Vincent's Public Hospital.
