Biography

Dr JJ Khong is a Melbourne and Adelaide trained ophthalmologist who provides comprehensive eye care, including cataract and oculoplastics surgery.

She is a consultant ophthalmologist at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital and the Austin Hospital. She is also a clinical senior lecturer in the Department of Surgery, University of Melbourne and a research fellow at the Centre for Eye Research Australia. As a clinician scientist, she enjoys patient care, research and teaching. JJ will provide assessment and treatment for general eye conditions including glaucoma, cataract, retinal, inflammatory eye diseases, emergency eye care, lids, tear duct, orbital conditions and thyroid eye disease.

Dr Khong graduated from the University of Melbourne with honours in bachelor of medicine and surgery in 2001 and won the Proxime Accessit Prize in Surgery. She under-took general ophthalmology training in Adelaide, followed by subspecialty training in eyelid, tear duct and orbital surgery at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital. She was invited for an international orbital fellowship in the Netherlands. Dr Khong completed a PhD degree in the genetic study of thyroid eye disease, supported by the Australian Postgraduate Scholarship. She was awarded the inaugural Dermot Roden Prize for her research at the Royal Australia New Zealand College of Ophthalmologist Scientific Congress.

JJ is a clinical supervisor for the Victorian eye registrar training program and she leads the ophthalmology teaching program for Doctor of Medicine (MD) at the Austin Medical School.

Her professional memberships include fellow of the Royal Australian New Zealand College of Ophthalmolgists, fellow of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Ophthalmic Plastic Surgeons, member of the International Thyroid Eye Disease Society and an associate member of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
