Biography
Attaining MBBS from University of Punjab, Pakistan, he had initial general medicine (POFs Hospital, Wah Cantt) and cardiology (Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology, Rawalpindi) training in Pakistan, followed by FCPS in Medicine and then MRCP (UK). His special interest at that time was silent ischemia having done research in that field.
After coming to Australia in 1999, he worked in Shellharbour, Sydney, Ararat and finally in Western Health in Melbourne where he still works after completing Australian qualifications of FRACP (Fellow of the Royal Australian College of Physicians) and DDU (Diploma in Diagnostic Ultrasound) – both in cardiology.
He is affiliated and accredited with Western Health (Footscray and Sunshine Hospitals), The Alfred, Western Private Hospital, Epworth Hospital Richmond and St Vincent’s Private hospitals. Dr. Bashir’s work includes consultations for general cardiology (Chest pain, Palpitations, shortness of breath, dizziness/loss of consciousness and related symptoms), as well as for hypertension, ischemic heart disease, valve problems, heart failure and other specific cardiac problems. He is actively involved in reporting trans thoracic echocardiograms, performing and reporting stress echocardiograms, transoesophageal echocardiograms, coronary angiograms, and related investigations. All his consultations and related tests are bulk billed.
Dr. Bashir is also involved in teaching medical students (both in public hospital and at Heart West rooms) and residents / registrars as well as basic and advanced trainees in medicine.
Dr. Bashir is fluent in English, Punjabi, Urdu and Hindi languages. He lives in western suburbs.
