Biography

Dr Richard Bittar offers patient-centric care with expertise in keyhole spinal surgery, brain tumour surgery, and deep brain stimulation (DBS).

Richard completed his neurosurgical training in Australia, before travelling to Oxford to pursue a fellowship in stereotactic and functional neurosurgery. While there he received further training in complex spinal neurosurgery. He’s also conducted research at the eminent Montreal Neurological Institute, Canada, and subsequently graduated with a PhD in functional brain mapping.

Richard is at the forefront of his field and was the first surgeon to perform a number of procedures in Victoria including robot-assisted spinal surgery, stereotactic radiosurgery for brain tumours, and DBS for a number of conditions. He routinely presents at national and international scientific meetings, and has published more than 50 articles in peer-reviewed medical journals.

Better and fairer care. Always.

In a rapidly transforming world, St Vincent's has created a refreshed vision and strategy to help shape Australia's health and aged care future.
