Biography

Dr Samuel Lynskey is an Australian orthopaedic surgeon specialising in complex sports knee reconstruction and modern joint replacement surgery. He is recognised for combining precise surgical technique, scientific insight, and highly individualised patient care.

He completed his Orthopaedic Fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, followed by advanced subspecialty training in sports knee surgery and joint reconstruction. He developed expertise in robotic-assisted arthroplasty at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne and the Fortius Clinic in London, with a focus on patient-specific planning, implant positioning, and soft tissue balance in high-volume arthroplasty settings.

Dr Lynskey completed the Fortius Sports Knee Fellowship in London, working alongside internationally recognised surgeons Mr Andy Williams and Mr Simon Ball. During this time, he contributed to the care of elite athletes including English Premier League footballers, international rugby and cricket players, and professional dancers. This experience informs his approach to complex ligament reconstruction, graft selection, and return-to-sport–focused care.

He also undertook a rural fellowship with A.Prof Alasdair Sutherland, focusing on hip and knee arthroplasty and trauma, gaining broad experience in complex reconstruction.

Dr Lynskey is currently completing a PhD investigating molecular and transcriptomic pathways in tendon healing and osteoarthritis, underpinning his evidence-based and biologically informed approach to orthopaedic surgery.

He holds public consultant appointments at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne and Northern Hospital, and serves as Scientific Secretary for the Victorian Branch of the Australian Orthopaedic Association.

Better and fairer care. Always.

In a rapidly transforming world, St Vincent's has created a refreshed vision and strategy to help shape Australia's health and aged care future.
