He won both the prestigious 2009 Geoffrey Royal and 2010 Evelyn Coy Prizes for clinical surgery. He undertook Cardiology training at St Vincent’s Hospital in Melbourne, specialising in the implantation of stents and heart valves under the mentorship of Prof Robert Whitbourn.

Sandeep followed this with a clinical and research postgraduate fellowship in Structural Cardiology with Prof David Hildick-Smith, President of the British Interventional Society. During this fellowship he gained extensive experience in structural heart intervention and authored numerous publications. He concurrently undertook a Doctorate of Medical Science through the University of Melbourne.
