Biography
Dr Tom Manolitsas is a Melbourne-based gynaecologist consulting at St Vincent’s Private. He specialises in gynaecological oncology (cancers of the female reproductive system). He provides his expert recommendations in a calm, concise and compassionate manner.
Dr Tom Manolitsas is a leader in the Australian gynaecological community in the field of minimally-invasive and robot-assisted surgery, being the first Australian gynaecologist to embrace robot-assisted surgery.Tom obtained his medical degree from Monash University and then undertook his postgraduate studies in obstetrics and gynaecology, training at Mercy Hospital and Monash Medical Centre.
Tom gained further experience in the field of gynaecological oncology interstate before completing his training and undertaking scientific research in the field of molecular genetics of a tumour suppressor gene in ovarian cancer. This led to him receiving the award of a doctorate of medicine. After completion of his 6 years of specialist training in obstetrics and gynaecology, he then undertook 4 more years of subspecialist training in gynaecological oncology in Australia and then completed his training in the USA at the James Cancer Center, part of the Ohio State University Medical Center.
Tom has received a number of awards for academic excellence and has taught the ‘total laparoscopic hysterectomy’ technique to many trainees and colleagues as well as ensuring their safe take-up of robotic technology. He has authored more than 25 articles and book chapters in peer-reviewed journals.
