Biography

Abhay Khot is an Orthopaedic Surgeon who specialises in Paediatric Orthopaedics, Paediatric Trauma and management of Neuromuscular Conditions like Cerebral Palsy.

He completed his basic medical training in India, graduating from the University of Pune in 1990. He qualified as an Orthopaedic Surgeon in 1995, successfully finishing a Masters program in Surgery. During this time, he also worked as a Lecturer in Anatomy and undergraduate teacher.

Abhay trained in the UK from 1996 to 2004 in the higher surgical training program in Orthopaedics in Cambridge. He obtained his Fellowship from College of Surgeons in 2000 and completed his Accreditation as Consultant in 2004.

He moved to Melbourne in 2004 for 12 months to complete a Fellowship in Paediatric Orthopaedics at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne. In 2006, he was appointed as a consultant at RCH and also at Sunshine Hospital.

At RCH, besides providing general Paediatric Orthopaedic expertise and supporting the trauma service, he developed a special interest in the field of Gait analysis and the Orthopaedic management of Cerebral Palsy.

At Sunshine Hospital, he helped to establish the Paediatric Orthopaedic Service and set up the structure and personnel to deliver essential components of care such as treatment of paediatric fractures, hip dysplasia and CTEV. This helped in providing care locally for an ever-growing population in the Western suburbs of Melbourne.

As part of a team supported by the Victorian Government Department of Health, he helped to plan and deliver the training programme for the accreditation of senior Paediatric Physiotherapists.

In 2012, he was successful at the Fellowship exam and was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.

Since 2013, Abhay has been developing his practice in the field of Paediatric Orthopaedics with a special interest in Neuromuscular conditions, especially Cerebral Palsy. He provides consultant expertise in this area at RCH, Monash Health and through out reach services in Tasmania.

Better and fairer care. Always.

In a rapidly transforming world, St Vincent's has created a refreshed vision and strategy to help shape Australia's health and aged care future.
