Biography
Mr Bart McKay is a General Surgeon with advanced expertise in surgery of the liver, pancreas, and bile ducts (hepatopancreaticobiliary or HPB surgery). He is accredited through the Australian and Aotearoa New Zealand Hepatic, Pancreatic & Biliary Association and provides care for patients with both benign and cancer-related conditions.
Mr McKay completed his general surgery training in Queensland before undertaking fellowship training in Melbourne and Calgary, Canada. This included extensive experience in complex pancreatic and liver surgery, vascular resections, liver transplantation, and advanced endoscopic procedures. While training in Canada, he also gained experience in Total Pancreatectomy with Islet Cell Autotransplantation (TPIAT) for chronic pancreatitis and is working to introduce this advanced treatment in Melbourne.
He treats a wide range of conditions involving the liver, pancreas, bile ducts, and gallbladder, with particular expertise in complex and advanced cases. Alongside his specialist practice, Mr McKay continues to manage common general surgical conditions such as gallstones, appendicitis, hernias, bowel conditions, and performs gastrointestinal endoscopy.
Mr McKay holds a public appointment at St Vincent's Public Hospital and Eastern Health, and consults at St Vincent's Fitzroy whilst operating at St Vincent's Private Hospital and Epworth hospitals.
