Biography
Mr Marty Smith is a general surgeon specialising in hepato-biliary and pancreatic (HPB) conditions including gallstones, hernia, reflux, and liver, bile duct and pancreatic cancers. Where possible, he uses advanced laparoscopic techniques to help minimise recovery time.
Marty graduated in1996 with a medical degree from Flinders University, before completing his advanced general surgical training at Melbourne’s Alfred Hospital in 2004. He then undertook further sub-specialty fellowships: a clinical fellowship in upper gastrointestinal surgery at Western Hospital, a 12-month fellowship in oesophagogastric surgery at Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge, and an HPB surgical fellowship at the Royal London Hospital. He then worked briefly in Kings College Hospital’s liver transplant unit before returning home in 2008.Marty is also involved in training medical students and advanced surgical trainees, and sits on the board of the Australian and New Zealand Hepatic, Pancreatic & Biliary Association.
