Biography
Professor Reginald Lord is an upper gastrointestinal and general surgeon who treats gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD) and hiatus hernia, Barrett’s oesophagus, gastric and oesophageal cancer, and severe obesity. He also performs gastroscopy (endoscopy), hernia and gallbladder surgery, and other procedures and operations.
Prof Reginald Lord was the first surgeon to use endoscopic radiofrequency ablation therapy for Barrett’s oesophagus in Australia, and was a pioneer of Bravo wireless probe testing for gastro-oesophageal reflux. He was the first surgeon to perform robotic general surgery in Australia.Prof Lord received his medical degree from the University of Sydney, a postgraduate research degree from the University of New South Wales, and is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.
He trained in general surgery at St Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney. Following this he spent more than 5 years at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, where he was a part of the renowned Foregut Surgery Department, at that time considered the world’s leading oesophageal surgery unit. During his time there he was a member of the team that first performed the gastric sleeve operation for weight loss.
