Palliative care is an essential component of cancer management. GPs need to identify and implement key strategies for integrating palliative care into general practice.

This session of the Oncology Symposium will support GPs by outlining the importance of a multidisciplinary approach and management of common symptoms in palliative care.

  • Manage patients who cannot tolerate the side effects of treatment or decide not to continue with treatment by applying appropriate palliative care strategies. 
  • Support families and loved ones, particularly in cases of sudden death, by providing appropriate counselling and support services. 
  • Identify available counselling and support services for patients, families and GPs dealing with end-of-life situations.
