East Melbourne is delighted to have undertaken their first HoLEP – or Holmium Laser Enuclation of the Prostate – procedure using their new Simai Genius Morcellator System. 

One of few hospitals nationally – and the only St Vincent’s Private Hospital in Melbourne – to have access to this cutting-edge technology, the new system provides increased patient benefits based on the speed, efficiency and advanced cutting technique it delivers. 

A minimally invasive surgical procedure used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), a HoLEP procedure generally involves using a small laser to remove the inner part of the prostate gland, providing relief from symptoms such as difficulty urinating, frequent or incomplete urination, weak urinary flow and associated complications arising from an enlarged prostate.

The Morcellator System allows this procedure to be undertaken in a more efficient manner providing patients with the benefits of shorter operating times, decreased anaesthesia time and improved recovery periods. The precision surgery also helps reduce trauma to surrounding tissue.
