- East Melbourne Welcomes Second MAKO
St Vincent’s Private Hospital East Melbourne is thrilled to welcome our second Stryker MAKO, which commenced its first surgeries in early December 2022.
Using Robotic-Arm Assisted Technology, the MAKO provides greater access for our Orthopaedic surgeons to perform robotic Total Hip, Total Knee and Unilateral Knee replacement surgery at East Melbourne.
Helping to more accurately define, prepare and execute implant placement, the MAKO creates a more customised, patient-specific perioperative plan, while also providing real-time surgical data, and adjusting the surgical plan as required.
Jenny Gozdzik, General Manager / Director of Clinical Services at East Melbourne, said the addition of the new MAKO followed strong surgical demand.
“As the use of Robotic-Assisted Technology continues to grow amongst our Doctor's, it became apparent that a second MAKO would be highly beneficial here at East Melbourne. Creating further efficiencies in our theatre grids – as we can now run two MAKO-assisted surgery lists at any one time – it also highlights our commitment to supporting our Doctor's and continuing to provide the very best patient-centric care possible.”
Highlighting St Vincent’s Private Hospitals Melbourne ongoing commitment and investment into technology and providing high quality patient care, this new addition positions East Melbourne as a leader in this type of robot-assisted technology, being one of few hospitals within Australia to provide access to multiple MAKO’s.
