In September 2026, St Vincent’s Private Community Hospital Griffith celebrates 10 years of caring for the people of Griffith and the wider Riverina and Murrumbidgee region.
Since opening on 23 September 2016, the hospital has become an integral part of the local healthcare landscape, providing specialist medical and surgical services closer to home and reducing the need for regional families to travel long distances to access care. Over the past decade, the hospital has recorded more than 21,000 admissions and performed more than 13,000 procedures across its three operating theatres and day procedure unit.
For Gabrielle Wood, General Manager and Director of Clinical Services, the anniversary is as much about the community as it is about the hospital itself.
“The story of Griffith Private is really a story of community vision, determination and partnership,” Ms Wood said.
“For decades local people advocated for a private hospital in Griffith because they wanted specialist healthcare available closer to home. Their passion and support helped bring that vision to life, and ten years later we continue to see the benefits for local patients and their families.”
Established to improve access and choice in regional healthcare, the hospital now provides services including orthopaedics, ophthalmology, urology, gastroenterology, general surgery, respiratory medicine, neurology and ENT services, with visiting specialists supporting a wide range of additional subspecialties. Many of these services are delivered through strong collaboration between metropolitan and regional clinicians, ensuring patients can access contemporary specialist care without leaving the district
“One of our greatest achievements has been enabling people to receive treatment closer to family, friends and support networks,” Ms Wood said.
“Healthcare outcomes are important, but so is being able to recover surrounded by the people and community that matter most.”
A defining feature of the hospital has been its commitment to partnership. Working closely with Griffith Base Hospital, local clinicians, universities, community organisations and government agencies, St Vincent’s has helped strengthen healthcare delivery across the region while supporting training, education and workforce development.
“We are proud of our partnerships with Griffith Base Hospital, Griffith City Council, our visiting medical officers, educational institutions and community organisations. Together we have built a healthcare service that continues to evolve to meet local needs.”
Looking ahead, the hospital's focus is firmly on ensuring the next generation of healthcare professionals can continue to care for the region. As part of its 10-year celebrations, St Vincent’s is supporting its Nursing Excellence and workforce development initiatives, designed to strengthen local healthcare capability through education, mentoring, leadership development and regional career pathways.
“When we grow nurses and health professionals locally, we keep care local,” Ms Wood said.
As the hospital celebrates this milestone, it does so with gratitude for the staff, doctors, donors, volunteers, community leaders and patients who have shaped its first decade and helped establish St Vincent’s Private Community Hospital Griffith as a trusted and valued part of the Riverina community.
