Biography

Dr Mark J. Winder is a Neurosurgeon operating at St Vincent’s Private and Public Hospitals in Sydney. He is the Director of Clinical Training for Neurosurgical Trainees at St Vincent’s and is actively involved in current evidence based research.

Dr Mark Winder has a special interest in innovative technology that allows doctors to see intercranial processes without breaching the skull. This goes hand in hand with his preference of minimally invasive procedures where at all possible.

Dr Winder has undertaken subspecialist training in North America, completing a 12 month Combined Spinal Fellowship at the University of Calgary which had a specific focus on Minimally Invasive Spinal Surgery. Dr Winder has trained under some of North America’s finest specialist spinal surgeons, publishing and presenting his research at several North American Spinal Meetings.

Upon completion of the Australasian Neurosurgical Fellowship, Dr Winder was selected for a Minimally Invasive Skull Base Fellowship at the Swedish Neuroscience Institute and Swedish Science Foundation in Seattle USA. Here he was mentored by internationally renowned skull base neurosurgeons Dr Marc Mayberg, Dr David Newell and Dr Greg Foltz.

Dr Winder completed a master in surgery and has over 20 years experience as a spine doctor and as a brain surgeon. He is currently involved in the development of the Australasian Neurosurgical Curriculum and is similarly keen to foster international academic relationships through conjoint fellowship programs.

Dr Windner's rooms can be contacted to answer questions about the central nervous system, brain tumours, spinal cord problems and other brain and spinal conditions.

Better and fairer care. Always.

In a rapidly transforming world, St Vincent's has created a refreshed vision and strategy to help shape Australia's health and aged care future.
