Biography

Mitchell Chipman is a physician who has specialized in medical oncology and palliative care for 35 years. He has special interests in breast cancer, prostate cancer and cancer complicating immunosuppression such as HIV infection.

Clinical trials are a mainstay of cancer medicine and at VBOC he has contributed to multiple landmark international clinical trials which have changed breast cancer care. Multidisciplinary care is central to his practice, to enable the best outcome for all patients.

His public work is mainly at The Alfred Hospital in Prahran and as part of that he attends the rural Wonthaggi cancer service each fortnight. He has thoroughly enjoyed teaching several generations of medical students and trainee oncology specialists.

He sits on a number of boards including the Voluntary Assisted Dying Review Board and that of the Melba Opera Trust. Previously he has sat on the Medical Board of Victoria, Victorian AIDS Council and hospital boards. He is a lecturer at Monash University where he did his basic training.

Better and fairer care. Always.

In a rapidly transforming world, St Vincent's has created a refreshed vision and strategy to help shape Australia's health and aged care future.
