Biography
Dr Christopher Yu is a north shore cardiologist with subspecialty training in cardio-oncology and advanced multimodality cardiac imaging. He completed his internal medicine and cardiology training in Sydney Local Health District (Royal Prince Alfred and Concord Hospitals).
He subsequently completed a PhD in advanced cardiac imaging in cardio-oncology with scholarships from the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) and National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF). To gain further subspeciality experience, Dr Yu spent three years at the Peter Munk Cardiac Centre, Toronto General Hospital, where he was a cardio-oncology fellow and then an Assistant Professor and staff cardiologist in cardiac imaging and cardio-oncology at the Peter Munk Cardiac Centre, Toronto General Hospital (ranked second best hospital in the world by Newsweek) and University of Toronto.Dr Yu is certified in Cardio-Oncology by the International Cardio-Oncology Society, where he is also the co-chair of the Imaging Working Group. His other leadership roles in cardio-oncology include being on the editorial board of the European Heart Journal – Cardio-Oncology and the European Society of Cardiology Diagnostic Working Group. Dr Yu’s research is focused in cardio-oncology and using artificial intelligence to improve cardiovascular care for patients in rural and remote areas. His achievements to date in include securing >$4m in national and international research funding, >40 peer reviewed publications and chapters in key cardiology textbooks.
Beyond his subspecialty areas, Dr Yu sees the full range of adult cardiac problems — chest pain, breathlessness, palpitations, high blood pressure, cholesterol, heart failure and valve disease — and accepts referrals for preventative cardiology, cardiovascular risk assessment and pre-operative assessment.
Dr Yu works closely with referring GPs and specialists to provide a holistic and multi-disciplinary approach to manage patient’s cardiovascular issues so that they understand their diagnosis and are empowered to make informed decisions regarding their cardiovascular health.
