Biography

Dr Paul O'Farrell graduated with first-class honours in medicine from the University of Sydney in 1997, having also completed a Bachelor of Arts in music, psychology and philosophy. He undertook physician training at St Vincent's Hospital and advanced training in gastroenterology at Royal North Shore Hospital, before returning to St Vincent's for further training in therapeutic endoscopy and gastroenterology in immunosuppressed patients.

He was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2004. From 2006 to 2007, he was a Teaching Fellow in Gastroenterology at Harvard Medical School while completing a fellowship in interventional gastroenterology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. 

Paul is a consultant gastroenterologist at Northern Beaches Hospital, with an appointment at Pittwater Day Surgery. His clinical interests include bowel cancer screening, liver disease, inflammatory bowel disease, nutrition, and thoughtful, ndividualised care for patients from adolescence through later life. 

He is accredited in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy by the Conjoint Committee for the Recognition of Training in Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and is a member of GESA, the AGA, the AACP and the AMA.
