Biography
A/Prof Lukas Ernstbrunner is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon specialising in upper limb surgery including the hand and robotic-assisted hip and knee joint replacements.
Lukas obtained his Doctor of Medicine (MD) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) through a combined program at the Paracelsus Medical University in Austria and the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota (USA). He completed his orthopaedic training in Switzerland at the prestigious Balgrist University Hospital under the guidance of Prof. Christian Gerber. He then relocated to Australia, where he completed multiple fellowships at major public hospitals, including the Royal Melbourne Hospital and Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane to sub-specialise as an upper limb and arthroplasty surgeon. He was subsequently awarded a Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (Orthopaedics).
He currently serves as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at Eastern Health (Box Hill and Blackburn Hospitals) and Royal Melbourne Hospital. In addition, he consults privately at St. Vincent’s East Melbourne and Epworth Eastern.
Lukas is a passionate researcher and holds an appointment as Associate Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Melbourne. His research contributions, particularly in biomechanics and reconstructive surgery, have been widely published in leading international journals. Lukas is committed to providing evidence-based, patient-centered care using the most advanced surgical techniques.
