Biography

A/Prof Lukas Ernstbrunner is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon specialising in shoulder, hip and knee surgery.  

Lukas obtained his Doctor of Medicine (MD) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) through a combined program at the Paracelsus Medical University in Austria and the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota (USA).

He completed his orthopaedic training in Switzerland at the prestigious Balgrist University Hospital under the guidance of Prof. Christian Gerber. He then relocated to Australia, where he completed multiple fellowships at major public hospitals, including the Royal Melbourne Hospital and Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane to sub-specialise in arthroscopic and arthroplasty procedures. He was subsequently awarded a Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (Orthopaedics).  

He currently serves as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and consults privately at St. Vincent’s East Melbourne and Epworth Eastern.   

Lukas is a passionate researcher and holds an appointment as Associate Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Melbourne. Lukas is committed to providing evidence-based, patient-centered care using the most advanced surgical techniques.
