Biography
A/Professor Ernstbrunner is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon specialising in shoulder, hip and knee conditions, with advanced experience in treating osteoarthritis and sports injuries.
He has a special interest in muscle-sparing and robotic-assisted joint replacements of the shoulder, hip and knee, and in complex key-hole surgery for tendon and ligament injuries.
Lukas obtained his Doctor of Medicine (MD) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) through a combined program at the Paracelsus Medical University in Austria and the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota (USA). He completed his orthopaedic training in Switzerland at the prestigious Balgrist University Hospital under the guidance of Prof Christian Gerber. He then relocated to Australia, where he completed multiple fellowships at major public hospitals, including the Royal Melbourne Hospital and Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane. He was subsequently awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (Orthopaedics). He currently serves as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and consults privately at St. Vincent’s East Melbourne, Epworth Richmond, and Epworth Eastern.
Lukas is a passionate researcher with over 110 peer-reviewed publications and holds an appointment as Associate Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Melbourne.
