Central fetal monitoring system offers many advantages

During labour we like to monitor the baby’s heart beat to ensure timely management of any variances that can occur.

Our central monitoring system is the very latest in fetal monitoring – in which the wellbeing of your baby is monitored both in the birth suite and at the midwives station during your labour.

Your obstetrician also has continuous remote access and can monitor all your vital signs during labour. The monitor is wireless, which allows mothers to move about freely and they are even waterproof, so can be worn in the shower.

Water Immersion Therapy

At St Vincent’s Private, we understand that your choices during labour and birth can shape your journey to motherhood and your long-term wellbeing. That’s why we aim to provide information to support your decision-making.

Warm water immersion during labour can:

  • Provide comfort, relaxation and natural pain relief
  • Help you feel more empowered, calm and in control
  • Allow free movement, instinctive behaviour and a sense of weightlessness
  • Reduce muscle tension and encourage the release of endorphins – your body’s natural pain relievers
  • Support the birth process and may reduce the need for interventions

It’s important to know that water immersion is available for labour only (not birth) and is best suited to women considered “low risk.” Your obstetrician will conduct a clinical assessment to determine your suitability.

Please note: Not all obstetricians and midwives offer water immersion therapy. Baths are available in three birth suites, so water immersion therapy will depend on room availability at the time of your admission.
